Even in fantasy games, sheer piles money can be more powerful than any spell. Game Genie knew this and made it possible to start Final Fantasy with a mountain of gold. Vanquishing evil’s a lot easier when you’re not working on a budget. To cash in, just use these two codes: GXSZPKSV + GXSXZKSV.
9. BREEZE THROUGH THE SEAWEED IN TMNT!
The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for the NES is legendarily difficult. But, there is no level more infamous than its underwater stage. Apparently, seaweed is deadly poison to even the most hardened of crime-fighting turtles! If this level haunted your childhood, no worries! You can become invulnerable to all aquatic plant life by just typing: SXVZGSOO
8. MAX YOUR STATS IN RIVER CITY RANSOM!
Anyone who’s ever played River City Ransom knows that it takes quite a while to to level up your abilities enough to face your rival and save the high school. So, if you’d like to save yourself some time, you can begin the game with maxed out Stamina. This code makes you a human tank from the word “Go”: LVNYIVYL
7. SKIP TO THE END OF BATTLETOADS!
Calling Battletoads “difficult” would be a massive understatement. This game was borderline impossible thanks to its insane bike levels. Fortunately, Game Genie enabled a code that let you bypass all of that and skip straight to the final level. If you never got the opportunity to face off against the Dark Queen, here’s your chance: GAXAALAE
6. ACTUALLY BEAT NINJA GAIDEN!
Ninja Gaiden was home to one of the most elaborate in-game narratives on the NES. Its 30 minutes worth of cut-scenes were a spectacle only trumped by it’s jaw-droppingly awesome ending. Unfortunately, almost none of us ever got to see it because of this game's relentless challenge. Fortunately, with the power of the Game Genie you could always have an unlimited supply of Fire-Wheel Ninja Magic. Being borderline invulnerable made this game a lot easier to manage. To bring the hurt, just type in: AAETUYIA
5. NEVER RUN OUT OF CRUCIFIXES!
Normally when you play Castlevania, every special weapon costs a certain amount of hearts to be used. Run out of hearts, and all you’ll have is your whip and whits to survive. However with these codes, your special weapons will cost you nothing. If you want to chuck axes and crucifixes with reckless abandon just type: KZSSEZKA + KXESUZKA
4. ALWAYS HAVE THE SPREAD GUN IN CONTRA!
Contra was so tough, Konami included a code to straight-up give you 30 extra lives. And even that was barely enough to get most of us to the end. So, if you ever wanted a little more of an edge, there's a way to start with the handy Spread Gun every time you die. Just plug in the Game Genie and fire away: LEIIXZ
3. UNLIMITED FIRE-POWER IN METROID!
Navigating the dangers of Metroid is tough work for anyone. Enemies are relentless and resources can be scarce. However, there was a code that let have an unlimited supply of missiles. With this one, there will be nothing on planet Zebes that can possibly stand against your wrath: SZUILUVK
2. BEGIN ZELDA WITH 16 HEARTS!
Grabbing heart containers can be a chore. If you want to bypass that hassle and start the Legend Of Zelda with all 16 hearts, all you have to do is type: NYKPOYZX
1. THE SUPER JUMP IN MARIO BROS!
This code for Super Mario Bros. is amazing. It makes Mario jump really, really high. Like, “able to leap tall buildings in a single bound” high. This not only allows you to completely avoid tons of enemies and traps, but it’s just plain fun to mess around with. Soar to new heights by typing: APZLGK
